Christ the King Solemnity (Thirty-Fourth and Last Sunday in Ordinary Time)

Also Read: Mass Readings for 23 November 2025

First Reading: Second Samuel 5: 1-3

So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron; and King David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed David king over Israel. (3)

The reading reflects King David as foreshadowing Jesus, who is King of Kings and Lord of all! As we commemorate the feast of Christ the King, we also remember that David was privileged to be an ancestor of Jesus Christ our Lord!

Alleluia, Amen!

Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 122: 1-5

I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord!” Our feet are standing within your gates, O Jerusalem. (1-2)

For there the thrones for judgment were set up, the thrones of the house of David. (5)

Amen, Alleluia!

Second Reading: Colossians 1: 12-20

For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him God was pleased to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, by making peace through the blood of his cross. (19-20)

Reflecting words of the Nicene Creed, this passage represents our beliefs! God reconciled the whole of creation through Jesus’ blood on the cross! In Christ Jesus, all the fullness of God dwelt and by his passion and death he took upon himself the wrath of God! In taking on the scourge of death, Christ redeemed the whole of creation. Therefore, it is but natural that every knee shall bow at the sound of his name. In the name of Jesus’ blood, every illness shall vanish, all evil shall be vanquished.

In the name of Jesus, Amen!

Alleluia: Mark 11: 9, 10

Alleluia, Alleluia!! Then those who went ahead and those who followed were shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Alleluia!

Gospel: Luke 23: 35-43

Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise.” (43)

One of the last words of Christ hanging on the cross was to the repentant thief! Even in his anguish, Christ chose to save the repentant human! He embodied The “King of Mercy!” title. He is Christ the King, He is Mercy!

Let us devoutly recite the Divine Mercy Chaplet daily. Jesus Christ, King of Kings, have mercy on us! Amen, Alleluia!
