  1. This may be one of the shortest Gospel readings consisting of only 3 verses Lk 21:34,35 & 36. But this is also a clear warning for us. When we are fully in the world under the clutches of worldly influences, we sometimes forget and behave and act as though this life is everlasting. We tend to think in the line of Epicureans / Hedonists: eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow is not sure. Often we follow this and our daily life is beset with daily needs and we forget that this short-lived life is not an eternal life choice. The gospel today reminds us that we have to be always with God and love God. If we do we will not be caught unaware. God bless us.

  2.  ‘Take care not to be deceived,’ he said ‘because many will come using my name and saying, “I am he” and, “The time is near at hand.” Refuse to join them. And when you hear of wars and revolutions, do not be frightened, for this is something that must happen but the end is not so soon.’
If we reflect these words of Jesus, a lot of confusion regarding the end of the world will be clear. Jesus says all trouble, natural calamities and even some false prophets who proclaim that the end of time has come. in 1979 the Skylab was about to fall and the whole world was in pain that the world is going to end. But the world did not end. Unless and until God decides to end the world, no human power can do this. Again and again human beings tried their best to become gods, but utterly failed. The Gospel today very categorically says that God has the ultimate power to destroy the world. The time is not know to anyone. Jesus himself says that the time is not known even to Son of Man, except God. The wars, calamities, natural disasters & other happenings are signs that we all should be vigilant and always pray to God and be his good people so that we are not caught up like the 5 unwise virgins.

  3. How true the two imageries Jesus is using today? A kingdom divided in itself goes to ruins. The present scenario of Afghanistan is the best example before us. A divided country and a devastated people. Secondly, a household divided is heading towards ruins. This will cause a lot of problems in the family: understanding, prayer-life, tolerance, peace, sharing and loving become farfetched realities in life. At times ending in divorce too. Hence, the Gospel today beautifully tells us to be united in prayer, in love, to have tolerance, to have forbearance and understanding, to share the goodness and forgive the minor burns that everyday we face.
Thank you Jesus for giving us insights into our lives and teaching us how to move forward together in our lives as families. We pray for your blessings and forgiveness and your guidance so that we may bear witness before people as Christians.
