The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls)

Also Read: Mass Readings for 02 November 2025

First Reading: Wisdom 3: 1-9

But the souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and no torment will ever touch them. In the eyes of the foolish they seemed to have died, and their departure was thought to be a disaster, and their going from us to be their destruction; but they are at peace. (1-3)

On this, the memorial of the souls departed, the church reminds us that death is not the end for us Christians! We have been granted the grace to live in the Father’s presence for eternity. But when we live in Christ and keep his commandments, we can attain eternal peace. We will be able to see and meet our dearly departed ones too! In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 23: 1-6

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord my whole life long. (6)

This is a Truth we can live in, even today while we are alive! We live in Christ because we have the Holy Eucharist! Amen, Alleluia!

Second Reading: Romans 6: 3-9

Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? Therefore, we have been buried with him by baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. (3-4)

St. Paul explains to us this truth of our eternal life in Jesus Christ! Through the Baptism in Christ Jesus, we die to our old self and through his Resurrection we are born to eternal life! Our bodies after death are no longer enslaved to sin! Therefore, when we die in Christ on earth we can be sure of living with him forever! In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Alleluia: Matthew 25: 34

Alleluia, Alleluia!

Then the king will say to those at his right hand, ‘Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.

Alleluia!

Gospel: John 6: 37-40

“This is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. This is indeed the will of my Father, that all who see the Son and believe in him may have eternal life; and I will raise them up on the last day.” (39–40)

The Lord Jesus Christ spoke these words to the crowds that were following him for days. As they came to him, Jesus did not turn away anyone. He promised that all who see him and believe in Him will have eternal life. We may not ‘see’ Him with our physical eyes today, but Christ has already blessed us. (John 20:28 – 30)

We praise and thank God for the gift of eternal life in Jesus’ name, Amen.

We pray for all the souls departed, to Rest in Peace, in the Lord, Amen!
