Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Also Read: Mass Readings for 28 September 2025

First Reading: Amos 6: 1a, 4-7

“(Alas for those who are at ease in Zion) …who drink wine from bowls, and anoint themselves with the finest oils, but are not grieved over the ruin of Joseph! Therefore, they shall now be the first to go into exile, and the revelry of the loungers shall pass away.” (6-7)

The Lord reminds us again through his Prophet Amos to watch our ways! Today, “…the ruin of Joseph” could mean the ruin of the youngest or smallest in our eyes! Whom have we forgotten or neglected to show concern this day? Let us reflect and redirect our attention not only to self-preservation, but also to our brethren in need! The Lord directs us to live in moderation in Sirach 31: 28-29 “Wine drunk at the proper time and in moderation is rejoicing of heart and gladness of soul. Wine drunk to excess leads to bitterness of spirit, to quarrels and stumbling.”  The Lord permits us the joys of living here on earth as his freed children – that we embrace life as it is, that we engage in matters that please the Lord so that we fulfill our purpose.

Let us not be immune to the sufferings of those in need, but let us seek to alleviate them. Let us use our time, resources and talent to work for the Lord’s plan! Let us ask the Lord to help us walk the faith that we profess by our lips! In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 146: 7-10

The Lord sets the prisoners free; the Lord opens the eyes of the blind. The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down; the Lord loves the righteous. The Lord watches over the strangers; he upholds the orphan and the widow, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin. (8-9)

Glory to the Living, Loving God, Alleluia!

Second Reading: First Timothy 6: 11-16

The Good Fight of Faith

“Fight the good fight of the faith; take hold of the eternal life, to which you were called and for which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” (12)

St. Paul encourages us today as we journey on this path of faith. We may face challenges because we live in a broken world and through our internal weaknesses. Yet, St. Paul reminds us in Eph. 6:10-20 to put on the whole armour of the Lord and not to be fearful! The responsibility of freedom is to follow the commitment our discipleship entails. If we feel weighed by the burden of this responsibility, we can lay it at the feet of our Master and rest in his redeeming and nourishing grace. As the Lord calls us in Mt. 11:28-29, we can lighten our load especially during the holy sacraments, the Holy Eucharist and the Confession. Let us strive to walk ahead as we progress in this journey. Let us not be dismayed at any trials we may face. We can regain our spiritual strength regularly through the Holy Adoration and the Holy Rosary. The Lord who began a good work in us will bring it to completion. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Alleluia: Second Corinthians 8: 9

Alleluia, Alleluia! For you know the generous act of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich. Alleluia!

Gospel: Luke 16: 19-31

“Father Abraham said to the rich man, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’” (31)

We have been blessed through the Old Testament to have the Law – Moses and the words of the great prophets. How do we listen to the readings at the Holy Mass? What do we take away from the homily every Sunday? There is a message for always, but where is our attention? When the Lord speaks to us through his word, how do we let our soul absorb his spiritual seeds of nourishment?

As the Lord’s children we are to reflect his mercy! Let us strive to bring solace to those in need, wherever we are placed. Let us shine the Lord’s light in our own corners of the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
