Sunday Reflection – 02 January 2022

EPIPHANY OF THE LORD Solemnity

Also Read: Mass Readings for 02 January 2022

First Reading: Isaiah 60: 1-6

They shall bring gold and frankincense and shall proclaim the praise of the Lord. (6)

What do I have to bring to my King? Am I contrite and humble to adore the helpless babe in the manager? Do I see my King in him lying there, in stark humility?

Where and what is my gold and frankincense?

Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 72: 1-2, 7-8, 10-11, 12-13

Take Courage, our helper is on the way!

For he delivers the needy when they call, the poor and those who have no helper. (12)

If you are in any kind of need, take courage your helper is the King! Amen!

Second Reading: Ephesians 3: 2-3a, 5-6

That is, the Gentiles have become fellow heirs, members of the same body, and sharers in the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel. (6)

We were gentiles before and have been redeemed into fellow heirs in Christ Jesus! But are we still gentile in our heart, mind, soul, and body? Do we introspect on our journey? If Christ is born in our hearts, we would be a renewed people after the verse in Rom 12:2!

Gospel: Matthew 2: 1-12

The star had stopped!

When they saw that the star had stopped, they were overwhelmed with joy. (10)

Whose star are we following? How has our journey been so far? Do we have an anticipated joy, while on this journey? If not, then we are probably following the wrong star! The wise men had followed the star in faith, therefore; they would have been sure in their hearts about the outcome of this journey! A journey of faith, a leap of trust in the Almighty will always guide us to the truth and joy!

So, should we be fearful of the Herods on the way? -No, of course! The other way around, back to our destination will be revealed to us at the appropriate time! Again, dear friend: Take Courage and Continue your “Journey!”

Could our “gold” and “frankincense” be our Courage in Faith and Joy from Wisdom?

Amen! Thank You, God!
