Sunday Reflection – 21 May 2023

Ascension of the Lord Solemnity (Seventh Sunday of Easter)

Also Read: Mass Readings for 21 May 2023

First Reading: Acts 1: 1-11

They said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up toward heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” (11)

Alleluia! Our Lord JESUS Christ has ascended into heaven, Amen! Christ promises the Holy Spirit and as we prepare for Pentecost Sunday, let us be ever so joyful and Thank the Good Lord!

Later, John writes in his vision of the revelation- Rev. 1:7 “Look! He is coming with the clouds; every eye will see him, even those who pierced him; and on his account all the tribes of the earth will wail. So it is to be. Amen.” We know He is coming, we must be prepared. We ought to rekindle the Holy Spirit and yield to our Dear Counselor. In Jesus’ name Amen!

Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 47: 2-3, 6-9

Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises. (6)

God is king over the nations; God sits on his holy throne. The princes of the peoples gather as the people of the God of Abraham. For the shields of the earth belong to God; he is highly exalted. (8-9)

Praise and Thanksgiving to Our Lord God must always be on our lips; it is a pleasing sacrifice to Him.

Alleluia!

Second Reading: Ephesians 1: 17-23

I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know him, so that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance among the saints. (17-18)

This must be our prayer today that we receive the wisdom and revelation that comes only from Our Father and Jesus Christ! When we truly contemplate what God, through Jesus Christ, has done for us, we will be in awe of his immense love for us. Being sinners, we still stand a chance to glorify Him eternally, face to face! Along with Mother Mary and all the great apostles and saints, we too shall see God the Abba Father, Jesus Christ, and The Holy Spirit Lord! Provided we have chosen to accept him, while we are here on earth. Then, we must repent. Without repentance, there is no redemption. Through our Advocates, Jesus and the Holy Spirit we have the courage to believe and be saved! Amen!

Gospel: Matthew 28: 16-20

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (18-20)

With this command, Christ commissioned his disciples to go out and baptize all nations. He also commissions us today, wherever we are in life, whatever position we have been placed in; we must be vigilant in fulfilling this great commission. We will be held responsible for the brothers, sisters, spouses, children, and friends entrusted to us! We have a mission in our area of dominion! Let us not be fearful, but with boldness take up this partnership with Our Lord Jesus Christ. Our Helper the Holy Spirit together with Christ is with us always. In Jesus’ name, Amen! Alleluia!

Happy Feast of the Ascension of Our Lord!
