Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
Also Read: Mass Readings for 16 November 2025
First Reading: Malachi 4: 1-2a
But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise, with healing in its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall. (2)
The Prophet proclaims the day of the Lord in the passage here! We note that it is the same day that comes, with its sun bringing healing to the righteous and the oven for the ungodly.
We await the sun of righteousness and hope that we too will be leaping like the calves described in the passage today. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 98: 5-6, 7-8, 9
Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody. With trumpets and the sound of the horn make a joyful noise before the King, the Lord. (5,6)
Amen, Alleluia!!
Second Reading: Second Thessalonians 3: 7-12
Now such persons we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living. (12)
The apostles set us an example by their living and working. St. Paul encourages us, believers to follow their example. It is in the ‘doing’ that we can exercise our faith. It may be tough to persevere in today’s world, but we must renew our minds and strengthen our resolve. “Greater is Christ who is in us than he that is in the world!” (1Jn 4:4) Therefore, let us stay committed to the Lord in our daily work too! Let us not live in idleness. If we have time, let us devote that time in the service of God! If we seek out the opportunities, we will surely find a means to be useful instruments for the Lord! – One way could be through volunteering in our local parish community.
We pray that all of us find meaningful work inside and outside home too. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
Alleluia: Luke 21: 28
Alleluia, alleluia!!
“Now when these things begin to take place, stand up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”
Alleluia!
Gospel: Luke 21: 5-19
So make up your minds not to prepare your defense in advance; for I will give you words and a wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to withstand or contradict. (14-15)
The Holy Spirit guides us always, in Jesus’ name, Amen! Lord Jesus Christ foretells the end times in the gospel today! The signs that Christ talks about have either already happened or are ongoing now! – The famine in Africa has affected millions and continues. The persecution of Christians exists in varying forms and degrees across the world!
What can we do? – Do our best in the spot we are at! Can we feed a hungry soul? Can we speak up for justice? – all this while relying on the Holy Spirit Lord to guide our words and guide our thoughts. Christ also said: “…for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.” (Mt. 10:20) and “See, I am sending you out like sheep into the midst of wolves; so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.” (Mt 10:16)
Therefore, let us rely on the Holy Spirit to guide us in all things. Let us build our relationship with the Lord through personal prayer and penance. Let us walk and not be dismayed — it is the Lord who goes with us. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
