It is Mother’s Day. Wish all our dear mothers the very best and abundant blessings from the Almighty. We all embarked on our lives following our dear mothers. We followed them with our tiny eyes and little ears. Once we were able to crawl, we followed them crawling. Even in our old age most of us take pride in following our beloved mothers. The gospel of the day has ‘following’ as the central theme for reflection.
Do you still follow your mother?
With social media, we can follow as much as we want to follow. You just need to hit the like, subscribe, or follow buttons, and you start following your favorite person or group. As a faithful follower, you will be asked to forward the message, the footage, the image, and the like to as many people as possible. With Facebook, Twitter, you-tube, and the like, you almost cannot escape the following somebody. Following somebody has become part of our lives. Without any training we know now that it is about like, subscribe, follow, and forward. And in the big industry of ‘following’, many often miss following the important people. If you aren’t careful enough you may cease to follow your dear mother, your beloved family, and your true friends, because some of them may not have social media accounts. Hence the question, do you still follow your mother and father? But there is a more important question to consider today; do you follow Jesus? Do you follow Jesus seriously?
You may know the trivia of the celebrities you follow, but he may just know how many millions follow him. In the age of social media, we follow people, who care little about us. And there are others who put our details for sale. We need to be careful like serpents before opting to follow somebody.
But, Jesus said, “I know them, and they follow me.” It is time to start following Jesus seriously because he cares to know us. He cares to know our needs. He cares to know our weaknesses. He cares to know our anxieties and fears. He cares to know our failures. He cares to forgive us. He cares to love us without condition.
Now, the choice is yours, do you care to follow Jesus?
Amen.
Thank you father
