The parable of the good Samaritan gives us mixed feelings. It makes us all proud to belong to our mother Church, which did exactly like the good Samaritan for over 20 centuries. Just as in the case of the Samaritan, the Church was, and is, considered an outsider, and an outcast by many.
Nonetheless, our mother Church, through her heroic daughters and sons has been doing what exactly Jesus was looking for, caring for the most vulnerable on the peripheries. It makes us all proud to belong to the Catholic Church that continues to be a healer to the wounded.
The parable also makes us worried. Because Jesus shall not be satisfied just because we belong to the healing Church outwardly. Jesus favored us making us members of the holy Catholic Church, not to make us sit back and relax seeing the heroic deeds of others, but to come forward and do as He suggested.
In other words, Jesus is not looking for the cheering crowd of the stadium, but for those who dare to toil hard and if needed get hurt to make His team win. In this game going on for centuries, if we are in the stadium and enjoying the thrill comfortably, we have reasons to worry. Because Jesus is not looking for spectators and reporters, He is looking for doers. If you are a doer wherever you are, be assured Jesus appreciates it. If you are not a doer like the good Samaritan, attempt being one today itself, Jesus loves that because it matters to try.
