Lenten Preparation – Day 18: Tuesday of the Third Week of Lent

As Lent progresses, we are reminded of the power of forgiveness. Christ teaches us that mercy has no limits. Just as we depend daily on God’s forgiveness, we are called to extend that same grace to others.

Forgiveness is not weakness. It is freedom.

Bible Verse of the Day

“Lord, if my brother sins against me, how often must I forgive him? As many as seven times? Jesus answered, I say to you, not seven times but seventy-seven times.” – Matthew 18:21-22

A Prayer for Forgiveness

Merciful Lord,
You forgive me more times than I can count. You show patience beyond measure. Yet I confess that I struggle to forgive others when they hurt me.

Resentment sometimes lingers in my heart. I replay painful words and actions. I justify holding onto anger. Forgive me for the times I have chosen bitterness instead of mercy.

Teach me to forgive as You forgive. Help me to release the burdens of resentment. Free my heart from the weight of unforgiveness.

Give me the strength to forgive sincerely, even when reconciliation feels difficult. Remind me that forgiveness is not about ignoring injustice, but about entrusting it to You.

During this Lenten season, purify my heart of anger and pride. Let Your mercy flow through me to others. May forgiveness bring healing to my relationships and peace to my soul.

Through Christ our Lord.

Amen.
