Fourth Sunday of Lent

Also Read: Mass Readings for 15 March 2026

First Reading: First Samuel 16: 1, 6-7, 10-13

Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers; and the spirit of the Lord came mightily upon David from that day forward. Samuel then set out and went to Ramah. (13)

The youngest, keeping sheep, was called and anointed as the Chosen one! God anointed David at the place where he was and in the work that he was doing!

Let us remain dedicated to the work at hand in the place where we are planted. May the Lord grant us the courage, faith and humility to remain persistent. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 23: 1-6

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord my whole life long. (5-6)

As we imagine King David at his anointing, we can easily picture the oil flowing over his head.

Amen!

Second Reading: Ephesians 5: 8-14

For once, you were darkness, but now in the Lord you are light. Live as children of light—for the fruit of the light is found in all that is good and right and true. (8-9)

Through our baptism and the sacraments, we have the Light of Christ in us, we too are anointed! We ask the Holy Spirit to guide us to live in the Light of Christ. May we choose to practice what is good, right and true. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Verse Before the Gospel: John 8: 12

Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”

Amen!

Gospel: John 9: 1-41

“As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” When he had said this, he spat on the ground and made mud with the saliva and spread the mud on the man’s eyes. (5-7)

Christ Jesus recreated through the earth he spat on and gave sight to the man born blind! Let us believe in HIM! Let us not wait for miracles or witnesses to the miracles. Let us believe that our miracle is here already in Jesus’ name, Amen!
