First Reading: Acts 1: 1-11
The Lord’s Ascension!
“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” When he had said this, as they were watching, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. While he was going and they were gazing up toward heaven, suddenly two men in white robes stood by them. They said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up toward heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” (8-11)
At His Ascension, Jesus Christ promised his disciples the Holy Spirit and that they would be witnesses to His Gospel in Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria. At Pentecost, they received the Holy Spirit, and the disciples followed Christ’s command to preach throughout the whole world, as we read it chronicled in the Acts of the Apostles and the apostolic letters. We ought to be alert and prepared for Christ’s second coming, as we saw him ascend!
We must know that what was promised in scripture will surely be fulfilled. We ask Mother Mary in this special month of her devotion to intercede for us. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 47: 2-3, 6-9
For the Lord, the Most High, is awesome, a great king over all the earth. He subdued people under us, and nations under our feet. (2,3)
Amen!
Second Reading: Ephesians 1: 17-23
The immeasurable greatness of his power!
I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know him, so that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance among the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power for us who believe, according to the working of his great power. (17-19)
We praise and thank the Lord God, our Father in Heaven, for revealing Himself to us through the working of the Holy Spirit. Let us continue to believe in his great power. For God has placed Christ: “… far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the age to come.” (v.21) This same Jesus Christ is our Lord and Brother! We are redeemed and protected by our Lord, and we rejoice in him daily! In Jesus’ name, Amen!
Alleluia: Matthew 28: 19, 20
Alleluia, Alleluia! Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Alleluia!
Gospel: Matthew 28: 16-20
The Great Commission!
Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (18–20)
Jesus Christ commanded his apostles to preach the good news and baptize the people. Christ is with us always, even to the end of the age, as he has promised! We are to live by his commandments: love of God and love of neighbour. (Mat 22:37-40) By the lives we live, we will be able to bring people to Christ. It is the working of the Holy Spirit that moves anyone to encounter the love of God through Christ Jesus. We pray to the Holy Spirit daily that our words and deeds may be an acceptable witness to our Christian calling.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Happy Feast of the Lord’s Ascension!
