Sixth Sunday of Easter
Also Read: Mass Readings for 10 May 2026
First Reading: Acts 8: 5-8, 14-17
Now, when the apostles at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them. The two went down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit (for as yet the Spirit had not come upon any of them; they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus). Then Peter and John laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. (14-17)
Philip sowed the Word of God in their hearts — As Jesus had commanded them, the Apostles spread the Word of God, even to Samaria! (Acts 1:8) In the Old Testament, Samaria used to have idol-worshippers! (1 Kings 16:32-33) But when it is in God’s time, even Samaria turned to the Living God!
We see here as Peter and John laid their hands — the roots of the belief and the tradition of the Sacrament of Baptism, followed later by the Sacrament of Confirmation by the laying on of hands by the Bishop. We praise and thank God for this insight and blessing. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 66: 1-7, 16, 20
Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth; sing the glory of his name; give to him glorious praise. (1-2)
Amen, Alleluia!
Second Reading: First Peter 3: 15-18
Keep your conscience clear, so that, when you are maligned, those who abuse you for your good conduct in Christ may be put to shame. For it is better to suffer for doing good, if suffering should be God’s will, than to suffer for doing evil. (15-17)
St Peter offers us a roadmap for our Christian journey. He walked this path and followed what He Preached! Keeping our conscience clear – how should we do that? St. Peter wept when he realized his one denial against the Lord and repented!
We must reflect on our daily choices! When we spend time in quiet dialogue with the Lord in the stillness of our hearts, a few undisturbed minutes are all that the Lord requires! We will be able to experience his gaze of love on our weaknesses, and we naturally will just want to leave our old self there itself at the foot of the Lord!
Let us make a conscious effort daily to do the inner work required to cleanse our thoughts and hearts. Let us read the scriptures, pray quietly and deeply, seeking the Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
Alleluia: John 14: 23
Alleluia, Alleluia! Jesus answered him, “Those who love me will keep my word, and my Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.
Alleluia!
Gospel: John 14: 15-21
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments. I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever. This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, because he abides with you, and he will be in you.” (15-17)
On our journey, Christ has not left us abandoned! He has given us His Holy Spirit, who guides, protects, warns, and defends us! Let us turn to the Holy Spirit in humble prayer and actively seek his advice daily!
We can abide in Christ, because HE has poured His Spirit in us. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
