Fifth Sunday of Easter

First Reading: Acts 6: 1-7
Let His Spirit Cement the Mortar of our Foundation!
“Therefore, friends, select from among yourselves seven men of good standing, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may appoint to this task, while we, for our part, will devote ourselves to prayer and to serving the word.” What they said pleased the whole community, … (3-5)
The early Church, under the leadership of the Apostles, settled any differences amicably and with wisdom. The presence and functioning of the Holy Spirit among the first Christians were evident in their dispute-solving process. Here, it is amazing to see the Holy Spirit at work in all of them, beginning with those who brought the dispute, the 12 Apostles, and the rest of the believers. Once, the Apostles offered the solution with the explanation, the complainants agreed and followed it.
We ask the Lord today that we may find the solutions to the disputes we may be facing in our lives. We ask the Lord for His Holy Spirit to work in and through us, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 33: 1-2, 4-5, 18-19
Truly, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love, to deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine. Alleluia, Amen!
Second Reading: First Peter 2: 4-9
“Let yourselves be built into a spiritual house!”
“Come to him, a living stone, though rejected by mortals yet chosen and precious in God’s sight, and like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” (4-5)
“You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people, so that you may proclaim the mighty acts of him who called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.” (9)
To truly understand God’s word, we ask the Holy Spirit to open our minds! When we are faced with trials or challenges in life, it is the Holy Spirit who calms our racing thoughts! But this is possible only when we have been willingly open to His words. Yet it can be a real struggle to “listen” to the Lord’s voice, even for the best among us! We are called to walk by faith at such times and maintain the rigour of repeating The Words from scripture. The words of God are alive and active; they create in us the cementing required in the mortar of our living stones! It is not our doing; it is the Power of the Word of God that builds our houses and forms us into a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, and God’s own people!
Therefore, let us rejoice that He has called us out of the darkness and into His Marvellous light! Let us walk and not get entangled with the deception of the enemy. We ask the Lord to enlighten us and keep us in His Light; we ask this through the intercession of St. Peter, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
Alleluia: John 14: 6
Alleluia, Alleluia! Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Alleluia!
Gospel: John 14: 1-12
Let us walk in the Light of Christ!
“And you know the way to the place where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (4-6)
The Gospel today is full of life, with the Word of God having spoken them! The entire gospel is worth reading and re-reading for us to soak in its sap of new life in Christ! We know Christ Jesus, therefore we know the Way! We thank the Lord God, our Father, who permits us to come to Him through Jesus. Amen, Alleluia!
Let us walk in the Light of Christ — the Truth, the Way, and the Life! In Jesus’ name, Amen!
