Holy Family Feast
Also Read: Mass Readings for 28 December 2025
First Reading: Sirach 3: 2-6, 12-14
Those who respect their father will have long life, and those who honour their mother obey the Lord. (6)
For kindness to a father will not be forgotten and will be credited to you against your sins. (14)
On the feast day of the Holy Family, we are reminded today of the blessings attached to the fourth commandment. “Honor your father and your mother, so that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.” (Ex. 20:12) We remember our parents especially and thank God for them! We are blessed when we have them with us here on earth, but when they leave this mortal life, they leave us with a legacy of goodness! We praise and thank God for our parents today!
We ask the Lord God to grant us the grace to adhere to the fourth commandment as well as to help others honour their parents. We also seek the Lord’s grace to help us in being the parents he intends us to be. In Jesus’ name, Amen! Alleluia!
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 128: 1-5
Happy is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in his ways. You shall eat the fruit of the labour of your hands; you shall be happy, and it shall go well with you. (1-2)
Amen, Alleluia!
Second Reading: Colossians 3: 12-21
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. (17)
The reading today proclaims how to live the new life in Christ and the rules for Christian households. There is one message that governs all the precepts laid down here — i.e., if we were to say or do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God our Father through him, we would be able to work in accordance with God’s holy will!
Let us strive to live in accordance with God’s will. In Jesus’ name, Amen, Alleluia!
Alleluia: Colossians 3: 15a, 16a
Alleluia, Alleluia! Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which, indeed, you were called in the one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God.
The antidote to strife is singing psalms or praising God in ALL situations! Alleluia!
Gospel: Matthew 2: 13-15, 19-23
Then Joseph got up, took the child and his mother by night, and went to Egypt, and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfil what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet, “Out of Egypt I have called my son.” (14-15)
St. Joseph followed the instructions given to him in his dreams by God. He was humble and courageous. He followed the word of the Lord, in the dead of night, in the cold or rain! He quietly walked his faith with courage and conviction through those streets and over treacherous terrain. He guarded the Holy Mother and the Divine Child with his life and steadfast faith. We praise and thank God for St. Joseph as a role model, the foster father of God! We also witness the silent submission of the Mother of God to the earthly foster father. We realize the devotion the Holy Family had in the way they chose to undertake the task of fostering their family.
We ask the Lord to grant us the humility, courage, and conviction of faith to nurture our family here on earth. We realize the significance of our quiet walk of faith in the spiritual and overall foundation of our generations to come. Pray for us, Dear Holy Parents of Jesus. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Happy Feast of the Holy Family, Everyone! May you and your families be blessed always! Amen!
