Lenten Preparation – First Sunday of Lent

The First Sunday of Lent leads us into the desert with Christ. For forty days He fasted, prayed, and was tempted. Yet He remained faithful to the Father. This Sunday reminds us that Lent is a spiritual battle, but it is also a journey of trust. We are not alone in our temptations. Christ has gone before us and shown us the way.

As we reflect on His time in the wilderness, we ask for strength to resist temptation and to depend fully on God’s Word.

” One does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” – Matthew 4:4

A Prayer for Spiritual Strength in Temptation

Lord Jesus,
You entered the desert and faced temptation for my sake. You experienced hunger, weakness, and the subtle voice of the tempter. Yet You remained faithful to the Father in all things.

I confess that I am often weak. I give in to temptation. I seek comfort instead of obedience. I rely on my own strength instead of trusting in Your Word.

Help me, Lord, to hunger for what truly satisfies. Teach me to depend not only on earthly things, but on every word that comes from the Father. When I am tempted, remind me that I am not alone. You stand beside me.

Give me discernment to recognize temptation quickly. Give me courage to resist it firmly. Strengthen my will when it grows tired. Fill my heart with love for what is good and holy.

May this Lenten season purify my desires. May I learn to choose what leads to life rather than what brings temporary satisfaction. And when I fall, lift me up again with Your mercy.

Lead me through the desert of this life and bring me safely to the joy of Easter.

Temptation is not a sign of failure. Even Christ was tempted.

Lord Jesus,
You overcame temptation in the desert.
Strengthen me when I am weak.
Help me to rely on Your Word
instead of seeking empty comfort.
Guard my heart from temptation
and lead me toward what is good and holy.
