Lenten Preparation – Day 10: Saturday of the First Week of Lent

As we conclude the first week of Lent, we are reminded of the call to love. True Lenten sacrifice must lead to charity. Prayer and fasting are incomplete if they do not transform the way we treat others.

Today we ask for a heart that reflects God’s love.

Bible Verse of the Day

“You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” – Mark 12:31

A Prayer for Love of Others

Heavenly Father,
You command me to love my neighbor as myself. Yet I admit that love is not always easy. I struggle with impatience, judgment, and selfishness.

Teach me to love sincerely. Remove from my heart the tendency to criticize and replace it with compassion. Help me to see others as You see them, with dignity and mercy.

May my fasting make me more understanding. May my prayer make me more patient. May my sacrifices make me more generous.

Lord, purify my motives. Let my kindness be genuine. Help me to forgive those who have hurt me and to seek reconciliation where needed.

As I journey through Lent, shape my heart to resemble the Heart of Christ. Let love be the measure of my progress. And may every act of charity bring glory to You.

Through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Reflection

  • Does your Lenten practice make you more loving?
  • Are you patient with those around you?

Love is the fruit of true conversion.

Today’s Lenten Resolution

  • Perform one hidden act of kindness.
  • Forgive someone in your heart.
  • Speak words that build up rather than tear down.

A Short Prayer for Today

Father,
Teach me to love as You love.
Remove impatience and judgment from my heart.
Help me to see others with compassion and mercy.
May my fasting make me kinder
and my prayer make me more patient.
Shape my heart according to the Heart of Christ
so that I may reflect Your love in all I do.
Amen.
