Lenten Preparation – Day 21: Friday of the Third Week of Lent

Friday in Lent once again draws our hearts toward sincere repentance. The Lord desires not empty sacrifices, but a heart that truly loves Him. True contrition flows from love, not fear.

Today we pray for a spirit of genuine repentance.

Bible Verse of the Day

” To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding, with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself’ is worth more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.” – Mark 12:33

A Prayer of True Contrition

Merciful Father,
You see beyond outward actions and look into the heart. You desire not empty rituals, but sincere love and repentance.

I confess that sometimes my sacrifices are routine. My prayers become mechanical. My fasting becomes habit rather than heartfelt devotion. Forgive me for any insincerity.

Create within me true contrition. Help me to recognize my sins not only because of their consequences, but because they wound my relationship with You. Let sorrow for sin arise from love.

Purify my motives. Transform my Lenten practices into expressions of deeper devotion. Remove hypocrisy and replace it with authenticity.

May my repentance bring renewal. May my love for You grow stronger than my attachment to sin. And may this Lenten journey lead to true interior transformation.

Through Christ our Lord.

Amen.
