Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion

Also Read: Mass Readings for 29 March 2026

Procession: Matthew 21: 1-11

The crowds that went ahead of him and that followed were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!” (9)

Hosanna to the Lord!

First Reading: Isaiah 50: 4-7

The Lord God helps me; therefore I have not been disgraced; therefore, I have set my face like flint, and I know that I shall not be put to shame. (7)

Isaiah prophesies Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem. As we prepare for this Holy Week with Palm Sunday today, let us remain focused on Christ. Christ set his face like flint toward Jerusalem, in full knowledge of what lay ahead for him. He did this for our sake! We thank the Lord for his mercy.

We also ask the Lord for the courage to remain steadfast in our faith, as we listen to His voice! Jesus spoke with the Father, listened to HIM, and obeyed HIM completely. We ask the Lord to grant us the grace to listen and obey, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 22: 8-9, 17-20, 23-24

“Commit your cause to the Lord; let him deliver—let him rescue the one in whom he delights!” Yet it was you who took me from the womb; you kept me safe on my mother’s breast. (8-9)

We praise and thank the Lord for protecting us and our children. We also ask the Lord how we can help save children today, from modern abuses that may surround them. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Second Reading: Philippians 2: 6-11

Therefore, God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (9-11)

We pray for the kingdom of Christ to dwell in our hearts and in the world today! We join our prayers with the apostles and the saints, for peace and justice to reign on this earth.

In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Verse Before the Gospel: Philippians 2: 8-9

He humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death—even death on a cross. Therefore, God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name.

Amen!

Gospel: Matthew 26: 14 – 27: 66

And from that moment he began to look for an opportunity to betray him. (16)

And they became greatly distressed and began to say to him one after another, “Surely not I, Lord?” (22)

Then he came to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and taking your rest?” (45)

Then he began to curse, and he swore an oath, “I do not know the man!” At that moment the cock crowed. (74)

In the Passion of Christ, where do we see ourselves? What role do we think, we may be enacting? At different points in our lives, we might find ourselves in the role of a betrayer, a denier, a by-stander, an accuser, a sorrowing follower, or a complacent disciple!! How do we ask the Lord: “Surely, not I, Lord?”

We ask the Lord to grant us a contemplative and introspective spirit so that we may discern HIS response to us, in Jesus’ name, Amen!

Have a Blessed Holy Week!
