Third Sunday of Easter

Also Read: Mass Readings for 19 April 2026

First Reading: Acts 2: 14, 22-33

“You that are Israelites, listen to what I have to say: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with deeds of power, wonders, and signs that God did through him among you, as you yourselves know.” (22)

“God raised him up, having freed him from death, because it was impossible for him to be held in its power.” (24)

Right after the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost, St. Peter proclaims about Jesus. He testifies to the multilingual crowd gathered there about how God had worked through Jesus with many signs and wonders. He further consolidates the teaching by quoting from the psalms and prophets about how God had foretold of the Messiah’s birth, life, passion, death, and resurrection; directly proving that it is Jesus Christ!

We thank the Lord for St. Peter’s first sermon that converted thousands on the first day! We praise God and pray for all our brothers and sisters in faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 16: 1-2, 5, 7-11

I keep the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore, my heart is glad, and my soul rejoices; my body also rests secure. For you do not give me up to Sheol or let your faithful one see the Pit. You show me the path of life. In your presence, there is fullness of joy; in your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Alleluia!

Second Reading: First Peter 1: 17-21

If you invoke as Father the one who judges all people impartially according to their deeds, live in reverent fear during the time of your exile. (17)

You know that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your ancestors, not with perishable things like silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without defect or blemish. (18-19)

St. Peter further exhorts us to live in reverent fear of the Lord, especially during the time of our testing! We must remember that we have been ransomed at a great cost – that of the blood of God! Therefore, we ought to live accordingly and conduct ourselves in godliness! In the preceding verses, St. Peter echoes the teaching of St. Paul (Rom 12:2)! “Like obedient children, do not be conformed to the desires that you formerly had in ignorance.” (14)

Let us not remain ignorant anymore but gain wisdom in our Lord Jesus Christ! In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Alleluia: Luke 24: 32

Alleluia, Alleluia!!

They said to each other, “Weren’t our hearts burning within us while he was talking to us on the road, while he was opening the scriptures to us?”

Alleluia!

Gospel: Luke 24:13-35

When he was at the table with them, he took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized him; and he vanished from their sight. (30-31)

They urged him strongly, saying, “Stay with us, because it is almost evening and the day is now nearly over.” So he went in to stay with them. (29)

Stay with us, Lord! We recognize you in the Holy Eucharist and adore you! Stay with us, Lord, for it is nearing evening too! Lord, we ask for your wisdom, courage, and faith to know you in our hearts! In Jesus’ name, Amen!
